A Columbus Ohio Divorce Lawyer article about foreclosure mediation.
According to the Ohio State Bar Association, all 88 counties in Ohio now offer foreclosure mediation. Mediation is a process in civil litigation where the parties meet with a neutral third party, acting as a mediator, in order to discuss settlement. In foreclosure mediation, the debtor and creditor will sit down with a mediator, who will guide the parties through a discussion to see if a mutually-acceptable agreement may be reached to resolve the foreclosure. The Supreme Court of Ohio has already trained over 500 foreclosure mediators and provided forms and documents for all counties to use in the process. While an acceptable resolution may not be reached in every foreclosure case, great success with Ohio’s mediation program has been noted by the American Bar Association, Washington Post, and the National Center for State Courts. More information about the Ohio Foreclosure Mediation Program may be found at: http://www.sconet.state.oh.us/dispute_resolution/foreclosure/FAQ.asp
