Cost of a contested divorce in Ohio

At the Law Offices of Virginia C. Cornwell, as with almost all Family Law firms in Ohio, contested divorces are billed hourly, and the cost of the divorce is a reflection of what happens, or does not happen, during the case.  As of January 29, 2009, hourly rates for attorneys at the Law Offices of Virginia C. Cornwell range from $175 per hour to $235 per hour.  Retainers (initial deposits toward fees required) depend on the matters involved in the case, and are determined at the initial consultation.  Retainers will be higher if the parties have children.  There are many other factors which make divorce cases more difficult or lenghty, such as:

  • domestic violence
  • extensive assets that must be valued
  • contested income amounts
  • contested spousal or child support issues
  • difficulties dividing assets due to the debt encumbering the assets
  • pensions or retirement assets that must be valued or divided
  • bankruptcy

In order to determine what your initial retainer would be for a contested divorce, or to discuss the facts of your case in order to determine the best legal action, please call our office for a consultation.
